Big Girl Bed Drama

A few weeks ago Penny tried to climb out of her crib.  Me being the paranoid mother that I am I immediately started reading about transitioning from the crib to the toddler bed.  A reoccurring theme i kept coming across was the age.  Anywhere between 1.5 and 3.  I also kept hearing from friends, family and all of the wonderful internet articles that it's sort of like potty training.  If the kid isn't ready , she's simply not ready.  Bring back the crib!!

So knowing that there was a high possibility of Penny simply not being ready , I still rushed out and purchased a toddler bed and mattress.  (we have a round crib now, so of course i had to buy a new crib mattress.  I very much regret not buying a normal crib that also changes into a toddler bed)  I was so excited but also extremely sad.

Being a single mommy, I now do a lot of things by myself without the physical or emotional help.  This is one thing I wish I had somebody to help with.  Physically it wasn't to bad, but i think i had a minor emotional breakdown that my baby was no longer a baby anymore.  If you are a mommy, you know what i'm talking about.  Time really does go by way too fast.  I remember putting Penny in her crib for the first time at 1.5 months.  She was sleeping in a bassinet next to my bed and was waking up every 3 hours to eat .  I was not sleeping in between because I couldn't stop watching her :)  At the time her dad was traveling for work roughly 280 days out of the year so it was just me and I was so sleep deprived.  I decided to try her in her own room so I would sleep when she slept.  Much to my surprise she slept all night long!  And that was the end of mid night feedings.  Now my baby has a big girl bed! ahhh

I guess i'll get to the point and stop my rambling :)  I introduced the bed last night when she got home and she wanted nothing to do with it.  She kept pointing to her crib and saying "bed" .  Today we spent about 45 mins laying in her new big girl bed reading books and she really enjoyed it!  I'll keep everyone posted on the progress or lack of progress we make in the coming weeks :)

XOXO
